A single-stage HDPE blue drum recycling granules plant is designed to process used HDPE drums into reusable granules using a streamlined process that eliminates the need for multiple extruders. This type of plant is cost-effective, requires less energy, and is suitable for medium-scale operations.
1. Process Flow for HDPE Recycling (Single-Stage) Step 1: Collection & SortingUsed HDPE blue drums are collected from industries, warehouses, and scrap dealers.
Sorting is done to separate pure HDPE drums from contaminated or mixed plastics.
Non-HDPE materials such as metal rings, caps, and labels are manually removed.
The HDPE drums are fed into a shredder to break them into smaller flakes.
The size of flakes (approx. 10–50mm) is adjusted depending on processing needs.
The flakes go through a friction washer to remove dirt, oils, and labels.
A hot water wash (optional) with caustic soda is used for chemical drum cleaning.
The washed flakes are dried using a centrifugal dryer or a hot air dryer.
The dried flakes are directly fed into a single-screw extruder (no need for agglomeration).
The material is melted at 180-220°C, mixed, and pushed through a filter screen to remove impurities.
The molten HDPE passes through a die head and is cooled using a water bath.
The cooled strands are cut into granules using a pelletizer.
The granules are screened for uniformity in size.
The finished granules are packed in 50 kg or 1-ton bags for sale.
